A smart mirror workout system designed for office workers, through the integration of a smart mirror with a mobile app.
Replica personalises, guides and motivates users to work out in an efficient and safe manner.
Jump to DeliverableThe brief was to create a workout training system for office workers at home. From there, I outlined three key design tasks I wanted to complete.
How might we guide office workers to work out correctly?
How might we encourage office workers to exercise at home often?
How might we integrate futuristic technologies in a workout system?
*Due to time constraints of the project, an extensive usability study was not conducted.
Analysed the landscape for smart workout systems
Conducted in-depth interviews with 3 office workers
Crafted user journey maps to pin-point design gaps in current workout experiences
Developed 2 user personas upon identifying user goals and pain-points
Rapid brainstorming
Assumptions of Replica’s smart mirror (e.g., size, orientation & controls)
Developed user flows, user journeys & low-fidelity wireframes
Established visual identity
Developed high-fidelity prototypes
In-depth interviews were conducted with three office workers who have exercised at least once in their homes.
This demographic was selected so as to understand their user journey, allowing me to further identify potential design gaps in the existing indoor workout systems.
01
Lack of real-time feedback makes working out daunting
02
Personalised workouts call for higher completion rates
03
The race against burnout - how can we motivate users?
After analysing the interview transcripts with the office workers, I crafted a user journey map based on their experiences. This helped me understand the frustrations they had faced during each phase, allowing me to identify design gaps in which Replica can fill.
Two user personas were developed to outline what users may need from a workout system.
One is new to working out, while the other is a seasoned fitness junkie. They each have different goals but one goal they had in common was to workout more, at the comfort of their homes.
Based on the problem statement, I conducted a rapid brainstorming session to generate different solutions to tackle various pain-points.
Below is an interactive table that shows an overall summary of the finalised ideas after evaluation.
After finalising the ideation, I decided to ideate further to provide assumptions on the smart mirror.
Horizontal
50-inch by 80-inch
LCD touch screen
Front-facing camera with in-built smart sensors
3D motion tracking
Stream workout on mirror with friends simultaneously
Workouts are first selected on Replica's mobile app before demonstrated on mirror
